COMPETITION RULES & REGULATIONS

All studios, dancers and attendees must comply with the rules below. 

AGE CATEGORIES & LEVELS

Ages: 6 & Under | 8 & Under | 10 & Under | 12 & Under | 14 & Under | 16 & Under | 17+

Levels: Beginner | Novice | Intermediate | Advanced

  • Age is determined by the dancer’s age on the day of the competition.
  • Duos must compete in the age category of the oldest dancer.
  • Squads operate under the 25% rule. At least 75% of dancers must fall within the age category entered, with no more than 25% permitted to be older.
  • Studios are responsible for entering dancers in the correct age category, level and section.
  • Proof of age may be requested at any time.

ONE AT A TIME SOLOS

  • Dancers perform individually to their own music.
  • Dancers may compete in a maximum of two one at a time solo styles per competition.
  • A studio representative must have the dancer’s music ready at the DJ booth at least two performances before they are due to compete.

SOLO ROUNDS

  • Solo Rounds are performed in groups with multiple dancers on the floor.
  • Tricks are only permitted in the final rounds.
  • Music for Solo Rounds is available on the Born To Perform music page.

TIME LIMITS

  • One at a Time Solos: Maximum 1 minute 30 seconds.
  • Squads: Maximum 2 minutes.
  • Exceeding the permitted time limit will result in a three-point deduction from each judge.

MUSIC POLICY

  • Born To Perform operates a strict plug-and-play policy.
  • Music for One at a Time Solos and Squads must be clearly labelled and ready to play at the DJ booth.
  • Studios are responsible for providing the correct music at the required time.
  • Born To Perform accepts no responsibility for incorrect tracks, poor sound quality or device failure.
  • Music will only be restarted if a technical fault is caused by Born To Perform.

PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO

  • Parents and guardians may record their own child’s individual solo performance.
  • Video recording is strictly prohibited during heats to protect the privacy and safeguarding of all dancers.
  • Anyone who fails to comply will be asked to leave the event.
  • Studios must ensure everyone attending with them is aware of and complies with this policy.

GENERAL COMPETITION RULES

  • Dancers must be ready and inside the competition hall when their category or heat is called. Heats cannot be delayed or rerun for absent dancers.
  • All attendees must behave respectfully and show good sportsmanship towards dancers, adjudicators, event staff and other studios.
  • The organiser reserves the right to combine, split or adjust heats, levels and sections where necessary.
  • The adjudicator’s decision is final.
  • Above all, we want every dancer to enjoy a positive and supportive competition experience.
  • Each studio will be allocated 2 teacher bands, large schools with 40 or more dancers may ask for one additional band if required.
